Programação informática: o novo código dos jornalistas

Isto sou eu a matutar no «Burro velho não aprende línguas» que Manuel Pinto coloca hoje no Mediascopio. A pergunta que ecoa por ali é: o que fazer com os “velhos” funcionários dos “novos” media?

Fez-me lembrar «Should journalists learn to code?», questão que Scott Rosenberg (à esquerda), co-fundador da Salon.com, levantou há algumas semanas, dando-lhe a seguinte resposta:

«(…) the pressing need is not for people who can write code with one hand and stories with the other. What journalists do need is working digital literacy.»

 O autor de «Dreaming in Code», especifica as necessidades:

«They need to understand something about how the technology that’s reshaping media works, how it’s built, what its strengths and weaknesses are, and how to harness it.»

E conclui: 

«Journalists don’t need to study object-oriented PHP in order to do that; yet it’s helpful for them to be able to mess with a WordPress template without running in terror.»

Palpita-me que é isto o que oferecem os (bons) cursos de Jornalismo em Portugal. Ou seja, o mínimo. E só nas boas escolas. Quer dizer, código para jornalista só há um, o deontológico e mais nenhum?
